Abstract
This document addresses cryptocurrencies as the unit of exchange that allowed a transformative process from face-to-face commerce to virtual commerce. The methodology is qualitative, it considered secondary databases, reflections and analyzes carried out by other scholars in the area, it is analyzed from the epistemological bases of Ricardian value to the Jevovian ones of the exchange theory of the eighteenth century and the possible aggiornamento that cryptocurrencies can bring to the subjective current of the economy. It reflects on the external factor that constituted the COVID-19 pandemic in the process of accepting an exchange unit that, despite not being subject to the control of any agency or Central Bank and its inherent characteristic of high volatility and complicated prediction, however, it has positioned itself as a revolutionary financial and commercial tool not only in the exchange of goods and services, but also in investments worldwide.
