Abstract

Electronic commerce has been a very important business model within the Covid-19 pandemic. In Ecuador, this model has not yet been fully established because the customer still mistrusts scams or does not know how to navigate online sites, and maintains the habit of face-to-face purchases, among other reasons. However, after the pandemic, e-commerce became the way to carry out buying and selling transactions for Ecuadorians. Therefore, it is necessary to know how electronic commerce has developed in the framework of Covid-19. For this, bibliographic data such as the reports of the Ecuadorian Chamber of Electronic Commerce (CECE) are used, as the main source of the current situation of online businesses in Ecuador. The investigation concludes with two points: customers and companies. On the part of the clients, they had to make online purchases for fear of contagion and the mobility restrictions established by the authorities. Among the most purchased products were those of food and health. On the other hand, companies suffered more at the beginning of the pandemic due to the little or almost no flow of people. To change this situation, they had to adapt their business to a digital one, using both social networks and messaging services to be able to make their sales and not have losses.
