Abstract
A brief introduction is made to the subject of Ethnomathematics, its cultural and historical origin within the so-called ethnosciences. The new orientation is presented in the context of the teaching of Mathematics, as an instrument that broadens the perspectives of the learning process. This new approach is observed in educational work in the world as well as in research in certain countries. A review of the Basic General Education curriculum in Ecuador is carried out to detect elements of Ethnomathematics within it, for this, the didactic material used in the educational process is taken that consists of school text for students, workbooks, and guides for the teacher. It takes into account the processes of change that have occurred in recent years in Ecuador concerning Education. A brief synthesis of the essential elements is made, among them: how to think about mathematics, the objectives of the area, the skills and abilities that are enhanced as well as the exit profile of the students.
