Resumen

El objetivo del presente trabajo es analizar la diferencia entre las tasas del potencial emprendedor y el emprendimiento incipiente en el contexto europeo y americano, así­ como tratar de identificar los factores que explican las diferencias en el emprendimiento. Para ello se parte de un enfoque institucional del fenómeno del emprendimiento, que contempla el papel desempeñado por diversos factores de carácter formal e informal, en relación a la actividad emprendedora. Desde el punto de vista empí­rico, el trabajo abarca veinte paí­ses procedentes del continente europeo y americano, cubriendo la última década. Las fuentes principales utilizadas son: Global Entrepreneurship Monitor (GEM) que mide la intencionalidad emprendedora y la actividad emprendedora incipiente, Doing Business, Worldwide Governance Indicators, World Development Indicators e Index of Economic Freedom para los factores formales e informales.
