Abstract

Mansplaining is a term adopted in recent years to describe situations in which a man explains something to a woman in a condescending manner. This type of behavior can be observed in many contexts, with the workplace being one of the most characteristic. In Mexico, there is a lack of studies evaluating mansplaining and its associations among individuals. Therefore, this study aimed to determine the prevalence of mansplaining according to the gender of the person reporting it and to examine differences in its perception by hierarchical level. An observational, analytical, cross-sectional study was conducted with n = 88 participants, who completed the Mansplaining at Work Scale. Data were compiled in Microsoft Excel and subsequently analyzed in SPSS (v. 25) using descriptive statistics (frequencies and percentages). Results indicated that most of the sample were men. The findings also suggest that mansplaining is not perceived only by women but occurs across genders and may affect the workplace environment of those involved. However, perceptions of these behaviors are subjective and may vary depending on individual experience.
