Abstract

This study aims to describe and analyze the perception that Beninese university students have about what constitutes a good Spanish as a foreign language teacher. The degree of importance they give to physical, professional, didactic and personal qualities is examined, as well as the differences in the conception of a good foreign language teacher between the sexes. For this purpose, a questionnaire was administered to 50 fifth-semester students in the Department of Hispanic Studies at the University of Abomey-Calavi during the 2023-2024 academic year. Data analysis revealed that participants placed the greatest value on the teaching qualities and scientific preparation, while physical characteristics were the least appreciated. Furthermore, no statistically significant differences were found in the assessments based on the respondents' gender.
