Article Processing Charges (APC)
Why do we charge APCs?
At Revista Publicando, we are committed to providing open-access academic content to ensure that knowledge remains free for all readers. Unlike traditional subscription-based models, open access allows researchers, professionals, and the broader community to read, share, and use new knowledge without restrictions. However, this open-access model comes with financial responsibilities that we, as a small publisher, must navigate.
Publishing high-quality research involves significant costs: managing peer review, editing manuscripts, plagiarism checks, indexing, providing DOIs, web maintenance, and promotion across platforms. As a small independent journal operating in a landscape dominated by large commercial publishers, we work hard to remain accessible and relevant. Therefore, to sustain our operations and ensure the highest quality of service, we charge a modest Article Processing Charge (APC) for certain types of contributions.
APC Structure
Below is an outline of the APCs for the various types of contributions we accept. These fees reflect the work involved in reviewing, editing, and preparing articles for publication:
- Original Research Articles and Theoretical Articles: $150 USD + 7% PayPal fee.
These types of contributions require significant editorial work, rigorous peer review, and technical processing. As they form the core of our journal’s content, we dedicate substantial resources to ensure their quality. - Review Articles (Literature or Systematic): $150 USD + 7% PayPal fee.
Review articles are widely cited and valued by the academic community. They require careful synthesis of extensive literature, formatting, and presentation. - Essays: $100 USD + 7% PayPal fee.
Essays, while more flexible in style, still require editorial oversight, formatting, and promotion. We keep the fee lower to encourage submissions of reflective and critical work. - Critical Commentaries: $80 USD + 7% PayPal fee.
These contributions are typically shorter but still involve editorial attention and preparation for publication. - Book Reviews and Letters to the Editor: No APC.
- Translations: $100 USD + 7% PayPal fee.
Translations of significant works require careful handling and preparation, making them essential contributions to advancing knowledge in multiple languages.
Optional Fast-Track Review Service
For authors who need an expedited process, we offer a Fast-Track Review option for $80 USD + 7% PayPal fee. This guarantees the peer review process, editorial decision, and acceptance notification will be completed within three weeks from the date of approval for review.
Waiver and Discount Policy
We understand that some authors may face financial constraints. We strive to support researchers while balancing the realities of sustaining a high-quality journal. For this reason, we offer waivers and discounts under specific conditions:
- Special Issues: For some special issues, the APC may be waived entirely. Authors should consult the specific call for submissions to verify whether a waiver applies.
- Need-Based Waivers: Authors experiencing financial difficulties can request a full or partial waiver. To do so, a justification must be submitted at the time of submission, explaining the need and purpose of the research. Waivers are not guaranteed, and decisions are made on a case-by-case basis by the Editorial Board.
While we strive to accommodate authors when possible, we ask for understanding: as an independent and small publisher, we operate within a challenging landscape. Unlike large commercial publishers, we rely on APCs to sustain our mission and ensure that knowledge remains open and accessible to all. Authors seeking waivers must carefully justify their requests so we can manage our limited resources effectively.
Payment Options
We accept the following methods of payment:
- PayPal: Payments can be made using a PayPal balance, credit/debit card, or bank account.
- Direct Bank Transfer: Instructions will be provided upon request.
How to Request a Waiver or Fast-Track Service
Authors interested in applying for a waiver, discount, or the fast-track review service should indicate this clearly in their cover letter at the time of submission. Requests for waivers must include a justification and will be evaluated by the Editorial Board.
